Chelsea defender David Luiz has said he is sure he will recover from injury in time to play in the Champions League final, the
Luiz suffered a hamstring injury in Chelsea’s FA Cup semi-final win over Tottenham Hotspur in mid-April and has not played since. The Brazilian’s assurances are likely to be warmly received by interim Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo, who was facing the prospect of being without all of his senior centre-backs for the Champions League final on May 19.
Not only has Luiz been struggling with injury but Gary Cahill had to be replaced in the Champions League semi-final second-leg against Barcelona with a hamstring injury of his own. In that same match Branislav Ivanovic picked up a booking that rules him out of the match with Bayern Munich, while John Terry received a straight red card that sees the captain suspended as well.
Luiz however believes he will be able to realise a career dream and play in the Champions League final. He said: “I am doing everything I can for this game. It is a dream [to play]. Not just my dream, of course, but for all players in the world. I think my fitness will be good and I will be fit for Munich.
