Manchester City will make a move for Arsenal captain Robin van Persie and are confident of landing the striker, according to the
Fresh from winning their first Premier League crown and first top-flight title of any kind since 1968, City will reportedly offer van Persie £250,000 a week to swap the Emirates Stadium for the Etihad. The Mirror add that it is a three-way fight to sign the Netherlands international with City in pole position and Juventus and Manchester United bringing up the rear.
If van Persie were to move to Manchester he would be following a well-worn path, as in recent seasons Kolo Toure, Emmanuel Adebayor, Gael Clichy and Samir Nasri have all made the same move, while former Arsenal captain Patrick Vieira is an executive at the club having ended his playing career in City blue.
The Mirror note that van Persie will be offered £130,000 a week to stay at Arsenal, around half what is on the table from Manchester City, but Arsene Wenger has long rejected the notion of selling the 28-year-old before his contract expires even if a new one is not agreed.
