The names joining Martinez on the Liverpool shortlist include Swansea City manager Brendan Rodgers, ex-England Head Coach Fabio Capello, Andre Villas-Boas, formerly of Chelsea, and Pep Guardiola, who stood down from Barcelona at the end of the season with the intention of taking time out from football.
However, the Independent suggest that Borussia Dortmund Coach Jurgen Klopp is closer to the top of Fenway Sports Group’s wish list but it is thought Klopp would view a move to Liverpool as a retrograde step. Instead, the publication continues, the out-of-work Villas-Boas or Didier Deschamps, the former Chelsea player and Juventus manager currently with Marseille, are more likely contenders, particularly since Deschamps is known to be unhappy at his current club.
