Reading move for Liverpool midfielder Cole

Joe Cole could spend next year on loan with newly-promoted Reading if the new Liverpool manager decides the England midfielder is not part of his plans, the Daily Mail has reported. Cole spent the season just ended on loan at French side Lille.

Cole joined Liverpool on a free transfer from Chelsea in 2010 but was out of favour under Kenny Dalglish when the Scot replaced Roy Hodgson in January 2011. But with Dalglish sacked this week there may be an opening for Cole to return to Anfield. However, if the new Liverpool manager does not see a role for Cole in his squad, Reading are reportedly interested in a temporary arrangement.

Cole’s wages would prove a stumbling block to a permanent move, as the £70,000 per week currently earned by the ex-West Ham player is too rich for the Royals’ taste. But a year-long loan through to next summer would leave Cole with only a year left on his Liverpool contract as well as providing the player with a return to English football.
