Harry Redknapp has admitted he would like to bring on-loan Manchester City striker Emmanuel Adebayor to Tottenham Hotspur on a permanent basis, the
Adebayor joined City on a season-long loan deal in August and scored 17 league goals for the club, including finding the target in Spurs’ last game of the season at home to Fulham. Adebayor’s goals have in part helped Tottenham to fourth place in the Premier League table and possibly a spot in next season’s Champions League, but their fate will only be decided by Chelsea’s success or failure in the final of this year’s competition.
If Chelsea defeat Bayern Munich then Roberto Di Matteo’s side will qualify for the tournament next season at the expense of Tottenham, who will drop into the Europa League instead. If the German side are victorious then Tottenham will enter the Champions League at the play-off stage.
On Adebayor, Redknapp said: “ He was only on loan and his loan is up. It is up to the chairman if we could loan him again. I would like to keep him, obviously. He has done great for us. But I don’t know. We don’t pay them wages – the only way we could do a deal was if the chairman did a clever deal like he did this year for him.
