Rooney confident of Man Utd comeback

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney believes that the club will be able to bounce back better than ever after missing out on the league title this season, reports.

The Red Devils striker scored the only goal against Sunderland last weekend and thought, along with the rest of the United fans and players, that it had won them the title. Unfortunately for the England international, Manchester City’s remarkable comeback at the Etihad Stadium meant the title went to the blue half of Manchester. Rooney now has the European Championships in Poland and Ukraine to concentrate on, but is confident ahead of next season and exacting revenge on City.

Rooney said: “For us as players, it was sickening really to lose the title like that. Our fans were brilliant all day. We can hold our heads up high, because we pushed Man City all the way. We’ll be back, no worries about that, we’ll be back stronger.”

On that final day at the Stadium of Light, Sunderland fans cheered the news of City’s victory and Rooney echoed the thoughts of manager Sir Alex Ferguson by saying that the players have not forgotten those fans who taunted them. The England international said: “It was sad to see that, because they should be supporting their own team really. They didn’t have the best of seasons themselves, so for them to be cheering like that was sad. It was something that myself and a lot of the players won’t forget.”
