Spurs interested in Brighton starlet Hall

Tottenham are lining up a cheap move for Brighton defender Grant Hall, who is out of contract this summer, Sky Sports reports.

Hall made his debut for the Seagulls this season, but has failed to agree a new deal with Brighton and could be available on a free transfer. News of his negotiations has reached Spurs boss Harry Redknapp, who has sent his scouts to watch the 20 year old on several occasions this season. At 16, Hall missed out on a scholarship at Brighton, but impressed at Isthmian Premier Division side Lewes and earned a second chance at the Amex Stadium.

Brighton boss Gus Poyet is a former Tottenham player, but does not want his former club to benefit from the talents of Hall. The 20 year old has made three appearances this term and is regarded as one of the brightest prospects at the club. Poyet would hate to lose the defender, but could face an uphill battle to hold on to Hall if Tottenham step up their interest.

Spurs are looking to revitalise their ageing backline, which includes William Gallas, Ledley King and Ryan Nelsen as players all over the age of 30. Hall would be seen as a prospect for the future and could be joined at White Hart Lane by Ajax defender Jan Vertonghen. The Belgian international is interested in leaving Amsterdam and Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is reportedly jetting to Holland to open formal talks with Ajax executives.
