Torres confidence in Chelsea future

Fernando Torres cannot wait for the start of next season after speaking with the Chelsea hierarchy to clarify his role at the club, the Guardian has reported.

The Spain international said: “My goal was to talk to them at the end of the season, I needed to know what plans they had for me. We’ve talked and now I have no doubt what they expect of Fernando Torres. I just want to start next season as soon as possible.

Torres had previously admitted he did not enjoy last season, the Guardian notes, adding that at one point he revealed he was close to asking to leave the club such was his unhappiness. The striker was also displeased at missing out on a starting berth in the Champions League final against Bayern Munich, but it appears now any problems between Torres and the club’s management have been rectified.

Chelsea paid Liverpool £50m to sign Torres in January 2011 but the 28-year-old has not reproduced the goal scoring form he showed at Anfield, enduring a goalless spell in the season that just ended that dragged on from mid-October to mid-March. Torres ended the season with 11 goals to his name.
