Van Persie future no closer to resolution after Arsenal talks end in deadlock

The future of Arsenal captain Robin van Persie is no clearer after talks between the player, his agent, Arsene Wenger and the club’s chief executive did not yield an outcome, the Daily Mail has reported.

The four met on Wednesday to discuss the proposed three-year contract Arsenal have put in front of van Persie, who has a year left on his current deal and could leave the Emirates Stadium for free next summer if a new contract is not signed.

The Mail adds that van Persie expressed his concern over the direction of the club after Arsenal finished third in the league, 19 points adrift of the Manchester clubs in the top two positions, and did not challenge in the FA Cup, the Carling Cup or the Champions League. Wenger responded by pointing to the signing of Lukas Podolski and other players the manager hopes to bring in as evidence he is building a side that can win trophies.
