Aquilani Liverpool future unclear

Over the last 48 hours there have been several reports that Alberto Aquilani’s future at Liverpool was to be decided. However according the Liverpool Echo, his agent – Franco Zavaglia – has rejected emerging reports in Italy that the player is to have his contract terminated so that he can join AC Milan on a free transfer.

The Italian’s agent said: “There is absolutely no possibility that Aquilani can become a free agent in order to decide what to do. I don’t know if he wants to stay at Milan. We just have to wait and see what happens and what Liverpool decides.”

The midfielder has had a torrid time since arriving at Anfield back in 2009 from Roma. Signing for Rafa Benitiez, the Italian only managed to make 18 appearances after picking up an injury early on. After a slow start in his first season he was loaned out the following year to Serie A side Juventus, where he played 33 times. In the season just gone he was loaned out once again, this time to AC Milan – only managing 14 starts for the league runner-up.

In recent days new manager Brendan Rodgers has admitted that he is going to give Joe Cole a chance at Liverpool after failing to impress in his first season and also being loaned out in his second. But it remains to be seen what will happen with the £20 million Italian.
