Arsenal seal Giroud deal

Arsenal have completed the signing of France international striker Olivier Giroud from Montpellier, the Daily Telegraph has reported, with Arsene Wenger’s summer spending approaching the £25m-mark after Lukas Podolski was also brought to the Premier League by the Gunners.

Giroud moves to the Emirates Stadium for a fee in the region of £12m, with the Telegraph claiming he has signed a four-year contract worth £60,000 per week. Podolski was signed from FC Koln for just under £12m, and the Germany international and his new French teammate are expected to play with Robin van Persie in a front three or, if van Persie leaves this summer, offer immediate replacements for the captain, the Telegraph adds.

The 25-year-old ended last season as the highest scorer in Ligue 1 with 25 goals, helping Montpellier to a shock title victory ahead of Lille, the defending champions, and Paris Saint-Germain, coached by former Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti and backed by the vast wealth of petrodollars.
