Arsenal’s Park Chu-Young to do South Korean military service

Arsenal’s South Korea striker Park Chu-Young has vowed to do his military service after causing uproar in his home country by delaying the mandatory term, a move that led to him being dropped from the national team, Yahoo Sports has reported.

Park, 26, did not reveal when he would do his military service but was at pains to apologise for his initial decision. The about-turn is said by Yahoo to have greatly enhanced Park’s chances of playing in the London Olympics as one of the South Korean squad’s three over-age players.

The former Monaco striker joined Arsenal in August 2011, having spent two years in the principality, moving to Monaco in 2009 from FC Seoul. Park has however struggled to make an impact at the Emirates Stadium thus far, making only six appearances last season, scoring once in the League Cup against Bolton Wanderers in October. Park also has 25 goals in 59 games for his country.
