Bale signs new Tottenham contract

Gareth Bale has signed a new four-year contract with Tottenham Hotspur, putting an end to speculation linking the winger with a move to Barcelona, the Guardian has reported.

The newspaper adds that as well as Barca, La Liga champions Real Madrid and Serie A giants Inter were interested in the Welshman, but Bale chose to extend his stay at White Hart Lane and vowed to help return the club to the Champions League, a competition in which they have not taken part since 2010-11.

Bale committed his future to Spurs despite the absence of a manager following the sacking of Harry Redknapp, although former Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas is expected to fill the vacancy in the near future. The Guardian adds that while Tottenham still intend to speak with France Coach Laurent Blanc, Villas-Boas is the favourite for the position.

The 22-year-old Bale moved to Tottenham from Southampton in 2007 and has gone on to play 160 times for the club, scoring 29 goals.
