Barcelona to sign Spain defender Jordi Alba

Barcelona have agreed a deal to bring Valencia left back Jordi Alba to the Nou Camp.

A report from Reuters has suggested that the 23-year-old will make the move after Euro 2012, following a medical – according to the official Barcelona twitter feed.

Alba is a graduate of the Barcelona youth academy however he was released in 2005. After a couple of seasons developing through the ranks of UE Cornella he was spotted and signed by La Liga side Valencia where he finished off his youth days and was eventually promoted to their senior side in 2008.

Since then, the defender has gone on to play 73 times for Valencia contributing 5 goals in that time. Earning himself a place in the Spanish national side in 2011, going on to compete in Euro 2012 for Spain.

The deal is speculated to be worth around £11 million and Alba is reported to be signing a 5-year contract for the Catalan giants.
