Chelsea defender Ivanovic not bound for Napoli or Madrid

The agent of Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic has rejected suggestions his client is set to move to Serie A side Napoli this summer, the Daily Mail has reported. The Mail adds that Real Madrid has also been mentioned as a possible destination for the Serbia international.

Vlado Boroza, Ivanovic’s agent, said: “It’s only a rumour because my client has renewed his contract with Chelsea…Ivanovic has three years left and I don’t believe the basis is there to start a negotiation with Napoli. First of all, Chelsea does not want to part with the player and Ivanovic does not want to leave the club.

The 28-year-old Ivanovic joined Chelsea from Lokomotiv Moscow in January 2008, and has gone on to make over 150 appearances for the club, winning the Premier League title in 2009-10, the FA Cup in 2009, 2010 and 2012, and the Champions League, also in 2012. Ivanovic was suspended for the final after picking up a booking the semi-final second-leg against Barcelona but played 10 matches in the competition before the final against Bayern Munich.

The right-back, who can also play as a central defender, was named in the PFA Team of the Year for 2010 and shortlisted for Chelsea’s Player of the Year award for the season just ended.
