Collins to discuss future with new Aston Villa boss Lambert

Aston Villa centre-back James Collins will meet with Paul Lambert, the new manager at Villa Park, to discuss his future in the face of interest from newly-promoted West Ham United, the Birmingham Mail has reported.

Collins originally joined Villa from the Hammers in August 2009 in a deal the Mail prices at around £5m. But with a year left on his contract at the club Collins will speak with Lambert over his intentions after contract negotiations broke down mid-way through last season. The newspaper adds that if Collins, who has made 109 appearances for the club, was allowed to return to Upton Park then Villa would not receive what they paid for him three years ago.

The 28-year-old is said to have struggled with poor form and disciplinary problems during his time in the Midlands, having twice been reprimanded for unsavoury incidents, including one at the end of last season at a Birmingham nightclub.
