Desailly rejects Swansea approach

Marcel Desailly will not be the new manager of Swansea City after the former Chelsea and France defender turned down the chance to replace Brendan Rodgers, who left for Liverpool, TeamTalkhas reported.

Desailly has no previous managerial experience and is in the process of earning his coaching qualifications. The 43-year-old admitted he was impressed by what Swansea could offer him but thought the possibility had arrived too soon. He said: “I was approached, but it is not the right time. Everything seemed fine, but it was too early.

Desailly is one of a number of names to be linked with the vacancy, with TeamTalk adding that Wigan Athletic assistant manager Graeme Jones, formerly of Swansea, was the front runner but talks between the parties concerned have thus far not been fruitful.

A World Cup and European Championship winner with France, in 1998 and 2000 respectively, Desailly played for Chelsea between 1998 and 2004, moving to Stamford Bridge after five years in Italy with Milan. A centre-back or central midfielder, Desailly won 116 caps for his country.
