Everton consider move for Rangers’ Naismith

Everton could soon add a second former Rangers player to their ranks as David Moyes ponders a move for Steven Naismith, who is one of a number of the Scottish club’s big names considering leaving the club due to their financial woes, the Liverpool Echo has reported.

Rangers are likely to begin the season outside the Scottish Premier League after effectively being forced to wind up the old club and start again, with the contractual situation of the players unclear. Many have confirmed they would prefer not to be part of the new club in the lower leagues of Scotland but Everton are waiting to get legal clarification on the status of Naismith before making their move.

If the 25-year-old can make the switch to Merseyside he will be reunited with Nikica Jelavic, the Croatian striker who moved to Goodison Park in the January transfer window, as well as former Rangers defender David Weir, who is a coach at the club. The Echo adds that Moyes sees Naismith as a candidate to play in behind the lone striker Jelavic.
