The expected £13m signing of Olivier Giroud by Arsenal will lead manager Arsene Wenger to overhaul his squad, signalling the end of their Gunners career for a number of players, including Nicklas Bendtner and Marouane Chamakh, according to the
Giroud, who is currently on international duty with France at Euro 2012, should complete his move from Montpellier imminently, after Montpellier’s deputy president, Laurent Nicollin, described negotiations over the transfer as “serene”.
The 25-year-old Giroud scored 25 goals last season as Montpellier surged to a surprise title victory in France’s Ligue 1, bypassing the likes of reigning champions Lille and Paris Saint-Germain who, despite their petrodollar fuelled spending spree, could only finish second.
If Giroud does move to the Emirates Stadium his presence, together with that of the already-signed Germany international Lukas Podolski, could bring about the end for Bendtner, who spent last season on loan at Sunderland, and Chamakh, who registered only one goal in 19 appearances during the prior campaign.
