Man Utd agree fee for Dortmund’s Kagawa

Manchester United have agreed a fee to sign Borussia Dortmund’s Japan midfielder Shinji Kagawa, the Guardian has reported. The newspaper puts the sum at £18m, with the transfer to be completed by the end of June.

The club confirmed in a statement that they had agreed terms with Dortmund for the purchase but that the deal remained subject to the player passing a medical and receiving a work permit to play in England. The Guardian adds that the initial amount paid by United is thought to be around £12m, with the rest dependent on bonuses and add-ons.

Kagawa, who is currently on international duty, joined Dortmund from Cerezo Osaka in 2010. In his time in Germany he has made 71 appearances, scoring 29 goals, helping Dortmund to consecutive Bundesliga titles in 2010-11 and 2011-12.

Kagawa was also instrumental as Dortmund completed a league and cup double in the 2011-12 campaign, with Sir Alex Ferguson and his assistant Mike Phelan watching as Kagawa inspired Dortmund to a 5-2 win over Bayern Munich in the German Cup final in May.
