Man Utd to offer cash plus players for Everton’s Baines

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson will try to tempt his Everton counterpart David Moyes into selling Leighton Baines by offering cash plus two players for the England left-back, the Metro has reported.

A fee of £15m has been mooted for the 27-year-old but Everton are said to be reluctant to sell unless the money on offer is such they cannot afford to turn it down. But Ferguson will try to sweeten the deal by offering Moyes two players from his squad, with the da Silva twins, Fabio and Rafael, and South Korea midfielder Park Ji-Sung suggested by the Metro.

If any United players did make the opposite journey should Baines swap Goodison Park for Old Trafford they would find some familiar faces already wearing Everton colours. The club captain, Phil Neville, is a graduate of the United academy but has been with Everton since 2005, while Tim Howard is a former United goalkeeper and in January, Darron Gibson moved to Merseyside in search of first team football.
