Modric wants to leave Tottenham

Luka Modric will inform Tottenham Hotspur that he wants to leave the club this summer, ESPN has reported, with Real Madrid expected to be the Croatian’s preferred destination.

ESPN adds that reports in Spain suggest Modric’s move to Madrid is at an advanced stage, with the player’s agent, Mario Mamic, having already met with representatives from Real. Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain have also been linked with a move for the playmaker.

Spurs are expected to demand a fee in the region of £40m for the 26-year-old if he is to move to Madrid, while Modric could make an official transfer request in an attempt to push the switch through.

Modric is thought to want to play Champions League football next season, having played in the competition with Tottenham in 2010-11. But Spurs missed out on a return to the competition last season, finishing fourth but dropping into the Europa League when Chelsea – who ended the campaign in sixth in the Premier League – won the Champions League itself, guaranteeing their entry into the tournament for the coming year.
