Newcastle face competition from Inter for Debuchy

Newcastle United will have to beat off competition from Italian side Inter if they want to sign Lille’s France international full-back Mathieu Debuchy, according to the Northern Echo.

Alan Pardew is said to be in the market for a right-back because of Danny Simpson’s reluctance to sign a new contract to stay at the club, leaving the manager with only Davide Santon, who is also used at left-back, and James Perch to call upon for the right side of defence.

It was thought that Newcastle would try to seal the deal before Euro 2012 but with the tournament getting underway on Friday that is now unlikely, and the Echo adds that the delay could give Inter time to steal Debuchy away from the Magpies’ clutches.

The Serie A side reportedly watched Debuchy in a recent France friendly, and with Brazil defender Maicon already announcing he would leave the San Siro this summer, Inter are in as much need of a new right-back as Newcastle.
