Manchester United’s South Korea international Park Ji-Sung has welcomed the arrival of Borussia Dortmund midfielder Shinji Kagawa, insisting that the Japan international will prove his worth at Old Trafford, the
Park moved to United from PSV Eindhoven in 2005 and has gone on to make more than 200 appearances under Sir Alex Ferguson, winning the Premier League four times, the League Cup three times and the Champions League once in 2007-08. The 31-year-old added that even though the arrival of Kagawa and Crewe Alexandra midfielder Nick Powell created more competition for places in midfield, he welcomed the new additions for that very reason.
Park said: “I know United have agreed a deal for Kagawa and I’m happy because we’re signing a good player. There is a lot of competition in the squad but it doesn’t matter who I’m competing with. As always, when I begin a new season I am determined to improve.”
Last season, Park featured in 28 games for the deposed Premier League champions, 17 of them in the league, scoring a total of three goals. The last of Park’s appearances came in the derby defeat to Manchester City, when he was withdrawn after an hour in favour of England striker Danny Welbeck.
