Rodgers needs time at Liverpool, insists Reina

New Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers must be given the time to implement his own approach if he is to succeed at Anfield, the Reds’ Spain international goalkeeper Pepe Reina has told the North Wales Daily Post.

Reina added that he is excited at the prospect of playing under the former Swansea City manager, who was appointed in place of Kenny Dalglish. Dalglish was sacked by the club in May after a disappointing league performance saw Liverpool drop to eighth in the table. Not even delivering the club’s first trophy in six years, the Carling Cup, and an appearance in the FA Cup final could save the iconic for striker’s job.

Reina continued that the reason for his enthusiasm is rooted in Rodgers’ playing style, which the 29-year-old believes is not only pleasing on the way, but will suit him personally a great deal. Reina, a graduate of the famed Barcelona academy La Masia, said: “It is my style and one that will be very good for Liverpool but he (Brendan Rodgers) is going to need time to implement his ideas. It is not going to happen in the blink of an eye.
