Skrtel wants to see Liverpool ambition

Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel wants to see signs that the club’s ambition matches is own if he is to stay at Anfield in the face of interest from Premier League champions Manchester City, the Liverpool Daily Post has reported.

The Daily Post adds that while an offer has not yet been made by City, the extent of their interest is well known at Liverpool. At the end of the season Skrtel delayed talks regarding his contract, which has two years to run, while City manager Roberto Mancini is understood to have made signing a centre-back a priority after Stefan Savic endured a difficult first season in the Premier League.

Skrtel’s agent, Karel Cstonto, said: “Some changes have been made at the club and he wants to know what the aims and ambitions are. And of course, we will discuss the issue of Martin’s new contract.

The Slovakian was recently voted Liverpool’s player of the season after a year in which the 27-year-old played 45 games, helping the Reds to victory in the League Cup and an appearance in the FA Cup final.
