Tottenham join race for Liverpool target Sigurdsson

Gylfi Sigurdsson’s proposed move to the Premier League has taken another twist today amid speculation that Tottenham are thinking of bidding for the player.

Reports in the Daily Mail suggest that Daniel Levy sees the Icelandic international as the perfect replacement for Luka Modric who is reportedly on his way to Spain in the coming weeks.

Sigurdsson had originally been set to join Swansea after spending last season on loan at the South Wales club. However, after Brendan Rodgers left his post with the Swans and headed to Liverpool the deal fell through – new boss Michael Laudrup conceding defeat this week.

Rodgers still wants to bring the 22-year-old to the Premier League and is hoping the allure of Anfield will be enough. But speculation is rife that Tottenham have offered the midfielder a better package and he is strongly considering a move to North London instead.

One floor in the proposed move to Tottenham is the lack of movement in the appointment of a new manager after the departure of Harry Redkapp two weeks ago.
