Tottenham’s Parker could miss start of Premier League season

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Scott Parker could miss the start of the new Premier League season as he may need surgery on his Achilles, the Daily Telegraph has reported.

If Parker does undergo the operation – intended to clean the region rather than repair any damage – the England international will be out of action until mid-September. Tottenham begin their Premier League campaign away to Newcastle United on August 18, with West Bromwich Albion the opposition for Spurs’ first home game a week later. Tottenham also travel to Old Trafford to meet Manchester United before October.

England manager Roy Hodgson revealed Parker had an Achilles problem following England’s defeat to Italy in the Euro 2012 quarter-finals, while Parker also missed much of the end of the Premier League season with the same injury. The 31-year-old would also miss England’s August friendly against Italy in Switzerland if he was to go under the knife.
