AVB hits out at Adam after Bale injury scare

New Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas has hit out at Liverpool midfielder Charlie Adam, after the midfielder’s tackle left Gareth Bale with an injury in yesterday’s friendly between the two sides.

Villas-Boas told the Telegraph: “I think it is a very nasty challenge from Charlie. The player is gone and he comes in from behind on Gareth’s ankle. I did not know the previous history between the two. I know now.”

The Portuguese is referring to an incident from over a year ago, when Adam left Bale with ruptured ankle ligaments after a hefty challenge, and it seems the pair are still not on good terms.

Bale’s latest setback comes after he had only just returned from injury, for which he was forced to miss the London 2012 Olympics with Team GB. Villas-Boas was surprised how quickly the Welsh winger recovered from that knock, but it may well be another race against time to get Bale fit for the season opener.
