Adebayor close to leaving Man City for Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur are closing in on the permanent signing of Manchester City striker Emmanuel Adebayor, with the Guardian reporting a fee of around £5m has been agreed for the former Arsenal player.

Adebayor’s wage demands had been a stumbling block to the transfer after the Togolese spent last season on loan with Spurs but a compromise is understood to have been reached. During his loan spell City subsidised £100,000 of Adebayor’s £170,000 per week wage but it is thought Tottenham will hand over a hefty signing on fee in lieu of matching the 28-year-old’s current pay packet.

New Spurs Head Coach Andre Villas-Boas is believed to see Adebayor as the player to spearhead his favoured 4-3-3 formation, slotting the ex-Real Madrid loanee in as the central striker, but Internacional forward Leandro Damaio remains on Villas-Boas’ wish list.

Last season under former boss Harry Redknapp Adebayor was on target 18 times in his combined 37 Premier League and FA Cup appearances.
