The 23-year-old has alerted both London clubs after being left out of the Championship side’s pre-season tour of Austria. Nzonzi insisted he wants to leave the club following their relegation from the Premier League in May.
Nzonzi has impressed since his move from French side Amiens in 2009 and has long been subject of transfer speculation linking him with a move to a top four side; however he signed a five-year-contract at Blackburn in 2010 and will now be the subject of offers from interested parties.
Speaking about the situation, manager Steve Kean said: “Steven has asked for a transfer. I want players who want to be here. That’s the reason why Steven was left at the training ground when we went away.”
The player’s father is also his agent and Kean confirmed meeting with him to discuss a potential move away from the club. The manager added: “He would like to play his football elsewhere, so we’ll be listening to offers if they come.”
Nzonzi netted two goals last season but could not prevent his side’s relegation, ending a 10-year stay in the Premier League. Blackburn have already sold Yakubu while Junior Hoilett’s contract has expired.
