Arsenal face competition from Barcelona for Capoue

Arsenal will have to see off competition from Barcelona if they are to clinch the signing of Toulouse midfielder Etienne Capoue, the Daily Mail has reported.

Arsene Wenger is believed to have turned his attention towards Capoue after losing interest in Rennes midfielder Yann M’Vila. Capoue, 23, has represented France at youth level, including captaining Les Bleus under-21 side, but has yet to make his senior debut. The Mail put his price tag at around £9.5m.

Capoue, who has spent his entire senior career with Toulouse, making his first team debut in 2007, is wanted by Barcelona to replace Seydou Keita, the Malian midfielder who has just left Spain to join Chinese side Dalian Aerbin. The Mail adds that Barcelona are also considering a move for former Gunners target M’Vila, but the new Barca manager, Tito Vilanova, is thought to favour Capoue as he would come substantially cheaper than M’Vila.
