Arsenal will hold more talks with captain Robin van Persie in the coming week as the club tries to persuade the unsettled striker to remain at the Emirates Stadium, the
Van Persie earlier this month announced he would not be signing a new contract with the Gunners before his current deal expires next summer. The Mail however notes that Arsene Wenger will speak with van Persie again next week when the Netherlands international begins pre-season training after his Euro 2012 exertions.
Members of the Arsenal hierarchy are said to be confident van Persie will change his mind and extend his stay with the club. The Mail points to the case of Wayne Rooney, who in 2010 issued a transfer request to Manchester United after talks over a new contract stalled. The furore was smoothed over, Rooney agreed a new deal and remains at the club to this day.
