Arsenal could bolster their midfield with a move for Schalke 04’s Germany international Lewis Holtby, the
Holtby, 21 and born to an English father, is entering the final year of his contract with Schalke and the club could be forced to cash in on the player now, rather than run the risk of his contract expiring in a year’s time.
The Mirror suggests that Holtby could be a replacement for Theo Walcott, whose contractual situation is in much the same vein. Liverpool have been touted with a move for the England winger if fresh terms are not agreed soon.
Arsenal are not the first Premier League club mentioned in connection with Holtby – the player is a self-confessed Everton supporter, the Liverpool Daily Post reported in June, although in the same interview Holtby added that as well as a fondness for David Moyes’ Toffees, Arsenal are amongst his favourite English clubs.
