Arsenal midfielder Andrei Arshavin will have to choose whether to return to Russia on a full-time basis with Zenit St. Petersburg or head for warmer climes with Al-Sadd of Qatar as he faces a permanent exit from the Gunners, the
Al-Sadd, based in Doha, are said to be keen to sign Arshavin as a further mark of their ambition following the capture of former Real Madrid and Schalke 04 striker Raul. But following Arshavin’s loan spell with former club Zenit, a long-term return to Russia is open to the national team captain.
Arshavin fell out of favour under Arsene Wenger last season and was allowed to leave the club on loan when the Russian transfer window opened. In his second spell with Zenit Arshavin made 11 appearances for the club, scoring three goals. He originally left Zenit for Arsenal in 2009, having played more than 300 games for the St. Petersburg side, captaining them to success in the Russian Premier League and the UEFA Cup.
