Aston Villa and Sunderland on alert after Ramis tells Premier League intentions

Real Mallorca defender Ivan Ramis has spoken of his desire to play in the Premier League, with Sunderland and Aston Villa rumoured to be interested in the player, according to Sky Sports.

Ramis was rumoured to be mulling over a transfer to Celtic or Everton in 2010, however he has now stated his Premier League ambitions, seemingly alerting Sunderland and Aston Villa as they prepare to battle it out for the player.

Speaking to Spanish newspaper AS, the 27-year-old said: “This could be the ideal moment to make a change and the Premier League is a destination that appeals because I like the football there.”

It appears that whilst the player remains “very happy” at the La Liga side, the clubs Vice-President Lorenzo Serra Ferrer told Spanish media: “I’ve received an offer from the representative of a Premier League club but we are quite far apart.”

Ramis is a product of the Real Mallorca youth set-up and has been an ever present figure in the heart of the sides defence in recent seasons appearing no less than 164 times, though a move to Premier League is not being ruled out from the player and boards point of view.

The Mallorca player continued to tell AS: “I want to have more challenges, more dreams, and to play in the English league would be an important step for me. I’d prefer things to be sorted out as soon as possible with regards to whether I’m staying or going.”
