Barcelona to rival Tottenham for Moutinho

Tottenham Hotspur Head Coach Andre Villas-Boas faces competition in his quest to replace Luka Modric, as the player the new boss is said to have targeted, Portugal midfielder Joao Moutinho, is also wanted by Barcelona, according to the Daily Mirror.

Modric is expected to complete a move to Madrid imminently, creating a gap in the Spurs midfield that Villas-Boas hoped to plug with the 25-year-old Porto playmaker. But despite reportedly having limited funds to work with – the Mirror claims Barcelona Coach Tito Vilanova has only £15m for a midfielder and a defender – the Spanish side are thought to be interested in Moutinho.

This is not the first time Barca have considered a move for Moutinho, either, the Mirror adds. When the player left Sporting Lisbon for Porto two years ago – signed by Villas-Boas – Barcelona considered trying to take him to La Liga instead, but Moutinho remained in Portugal.
