Benayoun keen to impress at Chelsea after Arsenal loan

Chelsea midfielder Yossi Benayoun wants to impress Roberto Di Matteo after returning from a year-long loan spell across London with Arsenal, the Independent has reported.

Benayoun joined Chelsea from Liverpool in 2010 but was allowed to leave temporarily by Andre Villas-Boas in 2011, moving to the Emirates Stadium on transfer deadline day at the end of August. Benayoun scored six goals in 25 games for the Gunners but missed out on Chelsea’s double-cup-winning season, as under Di Matteo the Blues claimed both the FA Cup and the Champions League.

The 32-year-old admitted he had enjoyed his time with Arsenal and appreciated the chance to play regularly after an injury-disrupted first season at Stamford Bridge, but insisted he was now focused on making a success of his Chelsea career and wanted to stay at the club.

Benayoun first moved to English football with West Ham United in 2005 before switching to Liverpool two years later. The Israeli moved to the Hammers after a spell in Spain with Racing Santander.
