Cavani names his price for Chelsea move

Napoli striker Edinson Cavani has told Chelsea they will have to make him one of their highest-paid players to tempt him to Stamford Bridge, the Daily Mail has reported.

Cavani is expected to hold talks with the Champions League winners this week, the Mail adds, and there it is thought he will demand parity with the likes of John Terry, Frank Lampard and Fernando Torres when it comes to his weekly pay.

Chelsea’s big hitters earn in the region of £150,000 per week and Cavani would require a similar sum to pull him away from Napoli, the club at which he has spent the last two seasons. A £35m price tag has been put on the Uruguayan’s head by the Napoli president, with Cavani one of a number of centre-forward options being considered by Chelsea in the wake of Didier Drogba’s departure.

Drogba left the club in the summer when his contract expired, instead signing a big-money deal with Chinese club Shanghai Shenua. Amongst the names said to be on Roberto Di Matteo’s shortlist with Cavani are Atletico Madrid’s Radamel Falcao and Real Madrid’s Gonzalo Higuain.
