Chelsea enter Maicon race

Chelsea are set to make a bid for Inter Milan defender Maicon after Real Madrid cooled their interest.

According to the Daily Mail, the Spanish champions have considered a £6 million offer but feel that the price tag plus the expected wages is too high for the 30-year-old right back, paving the way for the Blues.

The European champions are thought to be in the hunt for a new right back after releasing Jose Boswinga – Mathieu Debuchy of Lille being another option.

Chelsea currently have Branislav Ivanovic who has played on the right side of defense for them in the last few years, but the Serbian prefers a more central role. They also have Sam Hutchinson, a 22-year-old youth academy product who has returned to professional football after retiring due to injury in 2010.

Brazilian international Maicon, who turns 31 this month, has attracted plenty of interest in recent years having impressed for Inter Milan in all competitions – playing 235 times for the club and scoring 20 times.
