Fulham midfielder Clint Dempsey will attempt to force through his move to Liverpool and has pulled out of the Cottagers’ pre-season training camp, according to the
The Mail adds that Dempsey is desperate to move to Anfield after five years with Fulham, feeling that at 29 this is his last chance to move to a club with the stature of the Reds. The two clubs have not been able to agree a fee however, with Liverpool unwilling to pay more than £5m for Dempsey as he has only a year remaining on his contract, while Fulham are holding out for just under double that amount.
Dempsey and Fulham manager Martin Jol are said to have had a “heated debate” over the situation. Fulham later travelled to Switzerland for a seven-day sojourn but Dempsey was left at home.
Since moving to the Fulham in 2007 Dempsey has made 224 appearances for the club, scoring 60 goals, including 23 last season.
