Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed his interest in Brazilian international Lucas Moura, but insisted a deal to bring the player to Manchester United has not been agreed, reports BBC
The Sao Paulo midfielder has long been linked with a move to United this summer and reports suggesting a deal has been completed have been dismissed by Ferguson.
Speaking to the club’s website, he said: “We haven’t reached an agreement for the player. We’ve shown an interest but until such time as we get a deal agreed we can’t say he’s our player.”
With Ferguson losing Darren Fletcher to a long term stomach injury and the departure of Park Ji Sung, midfield has been the area most weakened by the Premier League runners-up and the potential signing of Moura will surely calm United supporters concerns.
At just 19-years-old, Moura has emerged as a key member of Brazil’s young set-up and a deal worth £26m has often been rumoured, though Ferguson is thought to not be keen in parting more than £20million for a player who has yet to play outside the top flight of Brazil.
