Ferguson wants another Man Utd Champions League win

Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed his confidence in his current Manchester United squad to undo the hurt of last season and win the Champions League this year.

Reported in the Daily Mail, the long-reigning manager of last year’s Premier League runners-up has spoken of his disappointment in United’s performance last time out and has backed his team to pick up their third Champions League trophy.

He said: “Over the last few years we have used the group stage as an opportunity to play the youngsters but last season it backfired. We changed the team too much. We won’t be doing that again.

Last season Manchester United did not progress through the group stage, instead finishing third and finding themselves in the Europa League for the first time. But their run in that competition came to an abrupt end in the last 16 at the hands of Athletic Bilbao who went on to finish runners-up to Atletico Madrid.

The red half of Manchester has had a storied past in Europe’s top competition, winning it twice in the last 15 years and once under the old format in 1968, known then as the European Cup.
