New Chelsea signing Eden Hazard has insisted he will not be fazed by the pressure of being the Blues’ biggest signing of the summer, the
Hazard moved to the Premier League from Lille and began pre-season training last week following his £32m switch. Chelsea fought off a great deal of competition for the signature of the Belgian and Hazard has admitted he will now have to contend with the expectation that comes with such a high-profile and expensive transfer.
“I hope to play as many matches as possible and to be able to gain the respect of the supporters and everybody associated with the club,” Hazard said, adding: “There is no doubt that this is a step up for me – the Premier League is the best League in Europe.” The 21-year-old also acknowledged that the pressure to win trophies at Chelsea can be intense, but claimed he would not wilt under the spotlight.
Hazard will wear the No. 17 shirt at Chelsea, the designation previously given to full-back Jose Bosingwa who left Stamford Bridge this summer following the expiration of his contract. The playmaker is one of a number of new signings at Chelsea this summer, alongside Marko Marin and compatriot Kevin de Bruyne.
