Ivanovic added that City will struggle to replicate their form of the last campaign again, opening the door for United – who the Serbian believes are favourites for the title – as well as Roberto Di Matteo’s new-look Chelsea. Ivanovic believes that having watched City edge the title last season, the likes of United and Chelsea will be particularly motivated for the coming campaign.
“After watching City win it last season United will have the motivation,” Ivanovic said, adding: “Also other teams, like Chelsea, will look at City and try to build something new and looking to be in the race to win the league. It will be tough for them.”
Ivanovic pointed to his own experience as a Chelsea player, remembering that when the Blues have won the title in the past the following season saw the opposition raise their game. The 28-year-old was part of the Chelsea squad which won the Premier League title under Carlo Ancelotti in 2009-10, and has three FA Cups to his name as well as last season’s Champions League success.
