Liverpool boss Rodgers wants Skrtel to stay

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has revealed the club has not received any offers for defender Martin Skrtel and insisted he would not welcome any either, the Daily Telegraph has reported.

Skrtel hinted in an interview earlier this summer that he would be prepared to leave Liverpool if the right offer came along. Liverpool however have no intention of selling Skrtel and, indeed, are negotiating a new contract with the Slovakian centre-back.

Rodgers insisted Liverpool had not had an offer for the player but Skrtel was quoted as telling a publication in his native country that he had received a number of offers, but with Liverpool not willing to entertain the idea of selling him nothing was likely to happen.

Skrtel was named Liverpool’s player of the year last season and only Andy Carroll, Jordan Henderson and Stewart Downing featured in more matches than the 27-year-old, but Skrtel made the most starts of any outfield player.
