Liverpool drew with MLS side Toronto in a pre-season friendly that saw the return of Joe Cole and Alberto Aquilani to action in a Reds shirt, the
Cole and Aquilani spent last season on loan at French side Lille and Italian outfit Milan respectively, but with their temporary moves now over both featured in Liverpool’s first friendly of the summer. Aquilani started the match while Cole was introduced at half-time as Brendan Rodgers used two completely different teams either side of the break. There was even room for a 23rd player to be involved, as Brazil midfielder Lucas Leiva returned from injury to play the final 15 minutes of the match.
Toronto took the lead through Quincy Amarikwa but Liverpool youngsters Raheem Sterling and Adam Morgan combined to equalise just after the hour mark. Rodgers used his preferred 4-3-3 formation, with just over 30,000 fans in attendance to see his first game in charge since replacing Kenny Dalglish.
