Liverpool will fight to keep Denmark international Daniel Agger out of the reach of Barcelona after the Spanish side reportedly revealed their interest in the centre-back, according to the
Agger, who has also been mentioned in connection with Barca’s great rivals Real Madrid, impressed many observes with his performances for his country at Euro 2012, chief amongst them new Barcelona Coach Tito Vilanova.
Liverpool however are not minded to sell Agger and instead hope to persuade the 27-year-old to sign a new contract at Anfield. Agger’s current deal expires in 2014 and new Reds manager Brendan Rodger has already confirmed his admiration of the defender, the newspaper adds.
Agger moved to Liverpool in 2006 having progressed through the youth team at Danish side Brondby. In his six years on Merseyside Agger has made more than 150 appearances, winning the FA Cup in his first year with the club and adding the League Cup last season.
