Man City ready to move for Arsenal’s van Persie

Manchester City have finally been given the green light to move for Arsenal captain Robin van Persie after the striker confirmed he would not be signing a new contract with the Gunners, the Daily Mirror has reported.

The newspaper adds that City have purposefully stepped back to wait for van Persie to make a decision rather than force the issue themselves, with the club now waiting on Arsenal to decide whether or not to sell the 28-year-old this summer or keep him at the club for the final year of his contract.

Whatever Arsene Wenger decides to do City will be waiting in the wings with a contract worth £220,000 per week, which the Mirror claims will make van Persie one of City’s highest earners, in the same category as Yaya Toure and Carlos Tevez.

To make room for van Persie City manager Roberto Mancini will sell Roque Santa Cruz, Emmanuel Adebayor and Edin Dzeko in an effort to welcome van Persie to the ranks of former Arsenal players now plying their trade at the Etihad Stadium. The list already includes Kolo Toure, Gael Clichy, Samir Nasri and Adebayor, while former Arsenal captain Patrick Vieira is a City executive after ending his playing days with the club.
