Premier League champions Manchester City will beat Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur to the signing of M’Baye Niang, the teenage prodigy who had been on trial with the Gunners, the
One of City’s decision makers, former Arsenal midfielder Brian Marwood, approached Niang’s club Caen with a request for talks over the sale of the 17-year-old. Niang had previously spent part of last week with Arsenal and has an outstanding offer to train with Tottenham as well.
Niang is widely expected to leave Caen this summer, with a valuation of £6m put on his head despite his tender years. Niang has already appeared for the France U-21 side and has 30 first team appearances under his belt. With Caen relegated to the French second division last season Niang is said to want to move on to play football at a higher level. It is thought City’s decision to directly approach Caen, and the money the club would be able to pay, will tilt the balance in their favour.
